ECLIPSE

It was a ridiculous idea from the start. Travel to the edge of the earth to see one of the planet’s rarest events- a total solar eclipse in the Arctic. Faced with the likely reality of bad weather obscuring the sun and having to battle frigid, arctic temperatures and winds, the odds did not favor success. Despite this the Salomon Freeski TV team and set out on an expedition to realize photographer, Reuben Krabbe’s grand vision to capture a single unique image- one of skiing during a solar eclipse. Persistence, preparation and a positive attitude was a guarantee of nothing as March 20th, 2015, dawned. The fate of the expedition’s goal would rest entirely in the hands of the weather gods.

Guilt trip

The only thing greater than this group of skier's desire to claim a first ski descent on Greenland's second highest peak is the size of their carbon footprint to get there. Loaded with guilt, they decide to bring along renowned glaciologist, Alun Hubbard, who’s scientific hypothesis, if proven, could rewrite popular projections of global sea-level rise. However, the entire expedition is put in question when they arrive in Greenland and discover their objective is beyond the range of all available aircraft. Shot on location in Greenland.

SNOWMAN

A lot of people associate risk with danger, but risk is everywhere, in everything. There’s risk in skiing in avalanche terrain, there’s risk asking a girl to dance. There’s also risk in breaking away from the path you were expected to take.

From childhood, Kevin Fogolin dreamed of living and working in the mountains. After breaking the shackles of small-town expectations, his dream comes crashing down in a helicopter avalanche bombing mission gone horribly wrong. In the aftermath, Kevin and his childhood friend, freeskiing icon Mike Douglas, are forced to confront the risks and rewards of following their passion for the mountains. Set in British Columbia’s rugged Coast Mountain Range, SNOWMAN is a familiar tale of dreaming big and a life where the greatest risk is not daring to dream at all.

50 YEARS OF GOING BEYOND

For the last five decades, Whistler Blackcomb has left its mark on those who are drawn to the mountains. What started as a single Olympic dream in 1966 has evolved into the largest ski resort in North America, with a slew of accomplishments to back it up. From the resort's adventure-seeking founders to its freestyle heydays--and breaking Guinness World Records along the way--snowsport industry legends recount the contributions that Whistler Blackcomb has made to skiing and snowboarding and the significance of it's golden anniversary. But while 50 YEARS OF GOING BEYOND solidifies the resort's legacy in the past, there is no denying that the last 50 years is just the beginning.

50 Years of Going Beyond was produced in association with Whistler Blackcomb, TELUS and Origin Design

TEMPTING FEAR

Andreas Fransson has been called the boldest extreme skier in a generation. Over the past 3 years he’s logged first descents in a half-dozen countries, battled back to life from an accident that nearly killed him, and become the most talked about skier in the epicenter of all things extreme – Chamonix, France.

What makes Andreas most intriguing, however, are his thoughtful musings on meaning from a life on the edge - a willingness to enter mental spaces that few have ever experienced. In "Tempting Fear", Sweden’s soft-spoken Adventurer of the Year explores a place in which fear overwhelms all emotions, playing both friend and enemy in a pas de deux where death lies just one misstep away.

'Tempting Fear' is a Salomon Freeski TV original production.

THE FREEDOM CHAIR

Josh Dueck was an aspiring skier and coach until a ski accident in 2004 changed his life for good. After coming to the realization that he would never walk again, Josh made a conscious decision to make the best of a terrible situation. Within 1 year he was back on snow doing what he loved, and shortly after, his determination took him to the top of the podium in the sport of sit-skiing. Despite his success in the world of competitive skiing, he wasn't satisfied as a skier. Josh's dream is to tackle the backcountry, and the steepest and wildest mountains in the world. In ‘The Freedom Chair’, it's a dream fulfilled.

Initially, we'd set out to make an episode of the web series Salomon Freeski TV with Josh, but after spending a few days with him we realized the true power of his story and knew we had to do more.

THE BURN

Every summer, forest fires burn wildly across the temperate mountain regions of the world. As destructive as they are, they have a purpose and beauty that often goes unappreciated. As winter arrives in the burned forest, so do the skiers. They have come to celebrate new lines opened up by the previous summer's fires that have now burned themselves out -- or have they?
